Biography

Jamie Bowman, chartered physiotherapist, working with the Limerick Senior Football Team

Jamie Bowman is a graduate of The Saxion Hogeschool Enscede, Netherlands where he achieved a first-class honours Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy in 2006. In 2010 , he furthered his education and achieved a Master of Science in Sport and Exercise Physiotherapy from The National University of Ireland, Galway. His thesis in this programme was on “The Effect of Hip Range of Motion on Jump Height in Female College Footballers”. In 2019 Jamie received a certificate in joint injection therapy from The Royal College of Surgeons.


His work portfolio includes Saint Camillus Hospital Limerick Stroke Rehab Unit under Professor Declan Lyons, 12 years working in private practice in “Limerick Physiotherapy Clinic” and in September 2018 opened “JB Physiotherapy” with the main focus on providing client focused Physiotherapy emphasising the need of strengthening and movement in the management of acute and chronic pain.


Since graduating in 2004 Jamie’s work with teams as team and head Physiotherapist include:

  • The Limerick Senior intercounty hurling and football teams,
  • The Limerick County intermediate and junior teams,
  • Garryowen RFC,
  • Railway Union RFC,
  • The University of Limerick Sigerson,
  • Fitzgibbon and O’Connor Cup teams,
  • Janesboro FC,
  • Salthill Devon FC as well as Physiotherapy consultant for sporting events.

Jamie’s main clinical interest is in the area of rehabilitation and the conservative approach to injury management. He works closely with a number of consultants in their care pathway with a focus on prehabilitation and post-surgical rehabilitation. In recent years his main clinical interest has gone in the direction of knee injury rehabilitation, primarily the anterior cruciate ligament. He also has a keen interest in the shoulder complex and the role that correct rehabilitation and strengthening has in the return to pain free function for those with rotator cuff or labral pathologies.
